Disenchantment

What can you expect from the creators of The Simpsons and Futurama other than infantile humor and a lot of allusions to contemporary pop culture. All taking place in the medieval fantasy kingdom of Dreamland. Personally, though, I rather enjoyed this. The first series was fumbling a bit, so half of the episodes presented separate stories, just like in case of The Simpsons, but the other half started a framing story, which was a fortunate decision on the creator’s part. Even though it’s strange to watch an animated series that develops a continuous story, this is definitely a success. I chilled, had fun, grew fond of the characters and especially enjoyed the beautifully animated kingdom, which would take your breath away even if you didn’t like the story and characters. So in short, I had a great time and am looking forward to more episodes. (29.03.2020)

I took my time getting to this season, but it was totally worth it. I immediately fell back into the magical, crude medieval fantasy world and enjoyed every minute of all ten episodes. Surprisingly, my favorite episode was the seventh, despite it having the lowest ratings. Overall, it was fantastic, and the half-hour format is perfect for unwinding after work. The ending was so intriguing that I dove straight into the next season. (21.08.2023)

Working my way through the series, I have to say it still maintains that perfect after-work, half-hour relaxation vibe. The episodes throughout are enjoyable, with a surprisingly dark ending. The steampunk world was a lot of fun, and I doubt it’s the last we’ve seen of it. (07.09.2023)

The series is starting to lose its storytelling edge. There are some outright average episodes, and the overall plot is dragging Dreamland into a heavy depression. It still works as a casual watch, but it's not as entertaining as I’d hoped. Luci (Bender’s alter ego from Futurama) has taken a backseat, and it shows. (14.09.2023)

The finale itself was well done. The journey to get there, though, was a bit weaker. The craziness in the kingdom didn’t fully engage me until the very end. But the finale was beautiful. The creators really nailed it, especially with Luci’s storyline. The scenes with God were some of the best in the series. They left me feeling a bit wistful. (22.09.2023)
