Darc

Don’t expect a film with a clever plot or deep thinking here; this one sticks to the tried-and-true formula of solid brawls where you shouldn’t overthink things. On the other hand, the film managed to keep me entertained throughout and held my attention. I came across Darc by chance; no familiar names were involved, but it still offered a decent viewing experience. The story isn’t innovative—our hero seeks revenge for his mother’s death while trying to save a young girl, so it’s two birds with one stone. I enjoyed the B-movie treatment; the cheap effects don’t get tiresome, and it’s okay to watch a lower-budget film now and then. To be fair, the fight scenes and shootouts were done quite decently; yes, they were sometimes over the top, but what isn’t these days? The lead actor charmed me with his charisma, and you gradually build a connection with him, making him a genuine character. If you want to unwind on a Friday afternoon, I can definitely recommend this one. I give it 65%. (24.05.2018)

A low-key revenge romp in the style of The Punisher! A young boy loses his mother, a prostitute, bumped off by the local Yakuza gang. Once he grows up he decides to take revenge and go over dead bodies. The story may be nothing original, but formally the film ticks all the boxes. For a B-movie, the film is technically good, the acting is decent (the lead has charisma) and the action is great, both the fights and the shootouts – there is no shortage of severed limbs or heads. It's Hard R-rated, so there's a lot of sex and naked women, lots of violence and there's also a lot of drug use, so those who like films like this will definitely have fun. For me it's decent. 75%.
