The Amputee is an extremely piercing, sadomasochistic experience. At least for those who manage to watch it until the end. It’s so simple – to the point of being primitive – and yet so impressive! Brrr!

A woman is writing a letter, thinking out loud, and meanwhile the doctor is poking at her leg ... ?! David Lynch's directing style really missed me in this case because I couldn't absorb it at all. Disgusting and morbid!

It's not to say that this film is about absolutely nothing. It evokes certain feelings, and there's a great blend of gritty reality with dark humor. Unfortunately, for me, it's just another installment where Lynch experiments with what can be filmed. The contrast between what the woman is reading and what the medical assistant is doing is great, but for it to really knock me off my feet...
